I know there are people who feel terrified of Ai taking over everything. I get it. I also think it’s here whether you like it or not, AND as a mom, I think Ai is one of the most under-utilized tools in the kitchen right now.

When I started using ChatGPT to plan my meals, I offloaded about an hour of time and a bucket of stress I used to put on myself every week as I sat down on Saturday morning while my kids watched cartoons and I tried to think, “what haven’t I made recently, that everyone will like, nobody will complain about, and I’ll be able to use up [insert random ingredient currently sitting in the fridge that I feel bad about wasting], but I’m not sick of eating, so that we don’t have takeout 3 nights this week.”

I like eating out, don’t get me wrong. But with a household of 7 people and a 2-year-old who eats like a linebacker, it gets expensive. FAST.

So after some experimenting, I found a couple of prompts (things you ask the Ai to do for you) work super well for me with getting the meals I want, AND the grocery list done for me, in absolutely no time.

Maybe the most important tip though is that you don’t want to just use the ChatGPT homepage. Did you know there are specific GPTs coded for specific tasks or themes? The GPT I use is coded just for meal planning. It’s smart enough to do a much better job than just the generic ChatGPT question box. It’s like using google flights instead of just google to look up times and prices of flights. Otherwise it’s going to tell you, “spaghetti, hot dogs, enchiladas, chili,” as your eyes roll back into your head.
